From early April through the end of July, the Johnston Running Club operates a youth track and field club for children ages 6-18 that practices three days a week and which competes in local, regional, and national youth track meets on the weekends.

2017 brings some changes to the JRC Track & Field club.  There will no longer be a separate recreational program.  All abilities and experience levels are still welcome but the practices will align more with the way the competitive program was run.  The season is set up to peak for the state AAU and USATF meets in mid June.  The team practices 3 times a week, Sundays (5:00 to 6:30 p.m.), Mondays (6:00 to 7:30 p.m.), and Wednesdays (6:00 to 7:30 p.m.). Practices for the run from early April through late June and, for athletes who qualify, culminates in regional and national youth meets for USA Track and Field (USATF) and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

Track & Field Club

The Johnson Running Club will be hosting its third annual home meet on Sunday, June 4, 2017, following highly successful meets in June 2015 & 2016.

Last year's meet was held at the Johnston High School's track facilities and the 2017 meet will be held there again following the extremely positive response from athletes and other teams. Over 350 athletes from nearly a dozen different teams competed in the 2016 meet and the JRC aims to build on those numbers this June.

Clubs interested in fielding athletes at the JRC's home meet should contact Britta Wey for more information at
